Training for retail food outlets and caterers

Learn how to provide and promote healthier foods and drinks in your food business, with our free training.

You will get the essential skills and knowledge to transform your business to meet the Victorian Government's Healthy Choices guidelines for:

  • workplaces
  • hospitals and health services*
  • sport and recreation centres
  • tertiary institutions
  • parks

*Please note: this session is not suitable for anyone working in hospital inpatient food services.

Training is available for chefs, cooks and managers of retail food outlets and catering businesses, as well as training for point of sale staff in retail food outlets.

Cooks, chefs, managers (online or workshop)

By completing this training you will learn:

  • the importance of supporting healthy eating in your community
  • about the Victorian Government’s Healthy Choices guidelines
  • how to assess your own menus, products and recipes using FoodChecker
  • steps to transforming your menu
  • how to promote healthier options for sales success
  • simple ways to modify recipes
  • how to source healthier products

You can choose to complete the training online, or attend an upcoming workshop:
 

Online

You can do training anywhere, anytime, online. It takes less than one hour to finish, and you can do it at your own pace by saving your progress as you go.

There’s no formal assessment but there are some interactive activities to check your knowledge.

You will be able to download a certificate after completing a short post-training questionnaire.

Workshop

This three hour workshop is run by an experienced dietitian or nutritionist from the Healthy Eating Advisory Service.

The session includes plenty of discussion time, and all materials will be provided on the day. You will also receive a certificate of completion at the end.

Training workshops are held across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria according to demand.

Point of sale staff (online)

Learn anywhere, anytime, with our free online training for customer service staff in retail food outlets.

You will learn:

  • how foods and drinks are classified using a traffic light system: GREEN, AMBER and RED
