Early childhood services

You can replace traditional fundraising activities with options that promote healthy eating to children, families and the wider community.

Benefits include:

  • celebrating nutritious foods and drinks as fun, enjoyable options
  • reinforcing healthy eating messages taught in your service
  • supporting a culture where eating nutritious food is the ‘norm’

Aim to involve your service’s community in the planning and delivery of fundraising activities to ensure their success. You can include: centre management, staff, families and local businesses.

Below are food and non-food options to raise funds at your service.

Food fundraising ideas

Fetes, stalls, fairs and special events

These items can be sold as options at events:

  • fruit boxes e.g. seasonal mango fundraisers
  • fruit salads or kebab sticks with yoghurt
  • apple slinkies
  • fruit smoothies (with milk and/or yoghurt)

Healthy barbeques

Barbeques are a great way for staff, students and families to socialise. Healthy barbeques foods include:

  • grilled vegetables (e.g. corn cobs, mushrooms, tomatoes) and vegetable kebab sticks
  • lean meat or chicken kebab sticks or patties
  • vegetable patties
  • wholegrain and wholemeal breads
  • a range of salads

Cultural theme days

Celebrate cultural diversity in your community by running a fundraising day that sells a range of foods from around the world.

You can also request a gold coin donation for children, families and staff to wear an iconic piece of clothing.

Harmony Week

Organise a barbeque and/or provide foods and drinks that reflect the cultural diversity of your service along with other activities such as:

  • dressing the part: invite children and staff to wear their traditional cultural dress or wear orange
  • celebrating with decorations, music, competitions, and other fun activities

Explore Asia

Sell a variety of Asian inspired dishes including:

  • sushi (nori) or rice paper rolls (no deep fried fillings)
  • Vietnamese rolls (Banh Mi): Crusty bread rolls filled with lean meat, lettuce, grated carrot, bean shoots, and coriander
  • fried rice and noodle dishes
  • honey soy chicken skewers: skinless chicken and vegetable skewers, grilled and served with a small amount of honey soy dipping sauce
  • stir fries made with lean meat, skinless chicken or seafood, plenty of vegetables and minimal oil

A taste of Italy

Sell a range of popular Italian foods such as:

  • pizza made with wholemeal pizza wraps, or English muffin bases and topped with lean meats and vegetables
  • pasta and lasagne made with vegetable based sauces and lean meats, chicken or seafood
  • bruschetta

Non-food fundraising ideas

Activities and games

Request a gold coin donation to participate in activities and games including:

  • make your own badges, cards, calendars or bandanas
  • guess the number of beans to win a prize
  • get your teachers/carers involved with fun challenges (eg, ice bucket, dress up or beard shaving challenge)
  • run, walk, bike, skip, dance, aerobic, aqua and skate-a-thons
  • tug-of-war, egg and spoon, or three-legged races

Raffles and auctions

Sell raffle tickets or take auction bids for donated goods and services from local businesses such as:

  • gift hampers car services and car washes
  • haircuts and colours
  • window washing, gardening, mowing
  • sport shoes and sporting equipment
  • music and movie vouchers
  • a weekend away at a beach holiday house
  • magazine subscriptions

Sell low cost items

Mark special events by selling low cost items such as:

  • flowers and small pot plants
  • gift sets
  • healthy cookbooks
  • kitchen supplies

Many low cost items can also be sold throughout the year including:

  • stationery and stickers
  • second-hand book stall
  • toys (e.g. tennis balls, kites, glow sticks)
  • personalised calendars, plates, mugs etc

Dress up days and social events

Request a gold coin donation for themed dress-up days and social activities. This might include:

  • multicultural celebration days
  • favourite sporting team colours
  • school discos and concerts
  • costume nights
  • casual dress days
  • face painting days
  • fetes and stalls (ideas above)
  • cinema and trivia nights
