Increasing Vegetable Intake Among Children

From Picky Eaters to Veggie Lovers
Vegetables are an important source of essential vitamins and minerals to support children’s growth, development and health.

Did you know only 28% of two- to three-year-olds are eating the recommended two and a half serves of vegetables per day.

Long day care centres have a wonderful opportunity to increase children’s vegetable intake by providing the opportunity to learn about a variety of vegetables and support fussy eaters by using their senses to explore foods.

How can this be achieved?
VegKIT have developed a curriculum resource called Taste & Learn.

They aim to:

  • Provides educators with lesson plans and activities to teach children about vegetables in a fun and engaging way.
  • Deliver an integrated program of research and development activities to increase children’s vegetable intake.
