Healthy Choices Policy directive: Working with privately managed retailers

Under the Policy directive, externally or privately managed retailers are also encouraged to provide healthier food and drink options. Whilst many externally managed retailers are proactively engaging with HEAS to implement elements of the Healthy Choices guidelines, there are a number of ways you can support your retailers.

Tips for successfully involving privately managed food retailers in the Healthy Choices Policy directive include:

  • incorporating the Policy directive within the retailer’s contract
  • including the Healthy Choices guidelines or Policy directive in tender specifications when contracting new retailers
  • presenting case studies of other retailers who have successfully implemented the Healthy Choices guidelines. Click here to see our case studies!
  • communicating the benefits of the Policy directive to the retailer, such as attracting new health-conscious customers and securing contracts with other health services
